Convicted farmer pays $4 million

MILO (KWWL) -

A Central Iowa farmer convicted of killing his neighbor will have to pay $4 million in a legal battle.

Friday a warren county judge ordered Rodney Heemstra, of Milo, to pay Rhonda Lyon in a settlement decision.

Heemstra shot his neighbor Tom Lyon in 2003 in a dispute over farmland and cattle-watering equipment.

Heemstra was originally convicted of first-degree murder. The Iowa Supreme Court ordered a new trial, and Heemstra was convicted of voluntary manslaughter.
