Cedar Rapids police kept busy with morning I-380 accidents

The Cedar Rapids police say they responded to three accidents on I-380 early Thursday morning.

The first happened at around 4:42 a.m. on northbound I-380 at the 7th Street on-ramp.  Sergeant Cristy Hamblin says 54-year-old Robert Medley of Madera, California lost control of his semi, hitting the guardrail and the center divider cables.  Medley, who was ticketed for failure to maintain to control, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries.

About 90 minutes later, police were called to I-380 and 76th Avenue SW.  Hamblin says 60-year-old Michael Wade of Oxford lost control of his pick-up and went into the ditch.  Wade was taken to Mercy Medical Center.  The accident remains under investigation.

Officers were then called to I-380 and Wright Brothers Boulevard about 20 minutes after the second accident for a report of a jack-knifed semi, but Hamblin says no semi was found.

A call to Hamblin to see if these accidents were weather-related has not been returned.
