Before making his way to Wednesday's speaking event in Dubuque, President Barack Obama stopped for some breakfast at Riley's in Cedar Rapids.

The President stopped at the diner at 9:27 a.m., where he ordered eggs, hash browns, fruit and orange juice, while eating with local veterans Amanda Irish, Jake Krapfl and Terry Philips.

"Don't mind these people," Obama said in reference to security and staff sitting across from his table. "Try to enjoy your breakfast."

Word of the visit spread through the neighborhood, with roughly 50 people standing outside for a glimpse of the President. The President's visit was a surprise for John and Diane Hohnstein, who say they usually eat at Riley's on Sundays after church.

"We thought it was joke when they said they would have to scan us," the couple said.

The president stayed overnight in Cedar Rapids following his speech in downtown Waterloo on Tuesday night.

President Obama will travel on to Dubuque where he is scheduled to speak at 12:25 p.m. You can watch the President's speech on KWWL-TV, or online at
