UPDATE: DNR investigates Grundy Co. fish kill

CONRAD (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources suspects a chemical pollutant caused a fish kill in Grundy County on Tuesday.

The Iowa DNR says a fish kill in Wolf Creek, which is west of Conrad, was reported to them late Tuesday morning.

Investigators arrived on scene early Tuesday afternoon and suspect that a chemical pollutant in the creek caused the fish kill.  Investigators hope that water testing will help to further define the source.

Fisheries staff say they found dead catfish, northern pike, suckers and minnows in about a mile long stretch of the creek.  They are working to count the number of fish that died.

The Iowa DNR continues to investigate and monitor the situation.
