Clarksville opens season with high hopes

The most anticipated football season in the history of the town of Clarksville gets underway on Friday.  The Indians, ranked #1 for the first time by the Des Moines Register, open up play against Midland in the UNI-Dome.

The Indians are led by senior Dalton Ciavarelli.  The quarterback led all of 8-man football with 2,554 rushing yards and 48 touchdowns in 2011.  He also helped Clarksville to the state semifinal, one year after the team won a playoff game for the first time in school history.

This year's squad looks to take it one step further and make a championship run.  On top of it, the seniors have an opportunity to qualify for the playoffs in every one of their four years.

"We've came a long ways," said Ciavarelli, "We've worked hard every year, all year, and we've always wanted this.  We've always said when we're seniors we're going to be something special, and we're trying to do that.

Senior Bryce Jacobs agreed, "We were good in junior high, and we just worked as hard as we could.  We went in the weight room starting in about 6th grade, 7th grade, and just kept working hard."
