Waterloo gearing up for presidential visit

The Riverloop Amphitheater will have the biggest act of its career Tuesday evening and the people there are gearing up for the visit.

The Cedar River will be President Obama's backdrop for his campaign stop in Waterloo.

The Riverloop Amphitheater was finished at the end of June and has already hosted several events. It holds nearly 1,000 people, but some visitors will be expected to stand Tuesday.

Mayor Buck Clark says he is thrilled to not only have a sitting president in town, but to have him speak at the amphitheater. He says the venue as a gem on the river the city is really proud of.

"To have the president come to town is really important. To have him visit the Riverloop Amphitheater is a real crowning jewel for us. So we are very anxious for our river and the amphitheater to be on the national stage with President Obama," said Clark.

Mayor Clark said it's been a while since a sitting president has visited the city. He believes the last visit was eight or nine years ago from President George W. Bush.

Due to the presidential visit, The Waterloo Center for the Arts will be closing at noon Tuesday.

A ticket is required to attend the event. All tickets have been handed out.

This is President Obama's 5th trip to Iowa this year.
