Sand sculptors invade downtown Iowa City

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The beautiful weather made it a perfect time to be out in the sand.

But not at the beach, instead in the streets of downtown Iowa City. Iowa City wraps up the Summer of the Arts this weekend with Sand in the City.

Downtown Iowa City will be filled with food vendors, a beverage garden, live music and entertainment but the focus is on the sand. "I think its an opportunity for people to see something that you don't normally see in this area and that's what you can actually do with sand,"said Lisa Barnes the Executive Director of the Iowa City Summer of the Arts.

Artists will create their sand sculptures for judging throughout the weekend and there are sand pits where the public can try and create their own masterpiece.
