Fire forces five from Cedar Rapids apartment building

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Five people are without a home after an apartment fire Friday night in Cedar Rapids.

The fire happened at the Shadowood Apartments on Edgewood Road Northwest around 4:45pm.

Tenants were reporting intense heat and a smoke alarm going off in one of apartments.

Fire crews forced open a door of the apartment and found heavy smoke and fire damage, but no fire.

Apparently the fire ran out of oxygen and burned itself out.

Three other apartments in the complex were damaged as well.

No one was home at the time.
