Preliminary report criticizes Iowa unemployment kiosks

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

A new federal report has criticized the computer kiosks set up to replace three dozen Iowa unemployment offices.

Last year, Governor Terry Branstad closed about two-thirds of Iowa Workforce Development field offices in an effort to save money. Self-help kiosks were set up.

The Des Moines Register cites an unreleased report by the U.S. Labor Department. In the report, it says the kiosks don't provide adequate services access to job seekers. The Iowa Workforce Development Deputy Director Ed Wallace says the report is preliminary and the reviewers most likely don't fully understand the project.
