IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Two Iowa City men were arrested after authorities say one of them smoked K2, a synthetic marijuana that is illegal in Iowa.

Iowa City police were called to an apartment in the 800 block of South Gilbert Court around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies say 22-year-old Thomas Goldhammer called saying his friend had smoked K2 and was "freaking out".

When officers arrived, they say Goldhammer pointed them to his friend and then took off running. Officers found Goldhammer in the parking lot. They say he had drugs on him.

Inside the apartment officers say they found 22-year-old Mitchell Ruden in the kitchen holding a knife. Ruden told officers he smoked K2 Tuesday night.

Ruden and Goldhammer are both charged with possession of a controlled substance.
