President talks drought assistance for farmers

Posted:
WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -

Tuesday the president was focused on America's farmers.

The White House announced more money, assistance and services are on the way to help American farmers impacted by this year's drought.

"We've already designated over 1,500 counties in 32 states as disaster areas which gives qualified farmers access to low-interest emergency loans. We've also opened up more land for grazing. We've worked with crop insurance companies to give farmers a grace period on unpaid insurance premiums, since some families will be struggling to make ends meet at the end of this crop year," said President Obama.

The Obama Administration plans to spend an additional 30-million dollars on water for farmers and ranchers hit hard by the drought.

Obama also urged Congress to pass a farm bill.
