ACLU concerned over classes held at a Des Moines church

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa has concerns over plans that some West Des Moines students will attend classes held in a church.

Windows are being replaced at Hillside Elementary School. During construction classes will be held at a nearby Lutheran church. Construction is expected to last about two months.

The ACLU Executive Director says school and church officials must ensure students not receive religious instructions or pressure.

A school district's spokeswoman says the school has clearly communicated to the church the need for separation of church and state.
