OELWEIN (KWWL) -

A Waterloo man died after a motorcycle accident near Oelwein.

It happened at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday night near the intersection of Highways 281 and 150, which is on the southern edge of Oelwein near the Buchanan County and Fayette County line.

Authorities say 47-year-old Dean Cox was traveling eastbound on Highway 281 when he hit a deer.  The collision threw Cox and his passenger, 31-year-old Tonya Fields from the bike.

The Iowa State Patrol says Cox landed on a portion of the roadway and was struck by a mini-van traveling behind him.  Cox was taken to Oelwein Hospital where he later died.

Fields was injured in the crash, and taken to Oelwein Hospital.
