Memorial for Iowa City teen killed in moped crash

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Almost one year ago a moped accident took the life of a West High student in Iowa City.

17-year-old Caroline Found was riding her moped along Mormon Trek Boulevard when she lost control and hit a tree.

Police say Found was not wearing a helmet at the time of the fatal accident.

Thursday night family teammates and friends of Found gathered in downtown Iowa City to create a memorial for the West High teenager.

In connection with the "Benchmark Program", which is being used to paint all downtown park benches, one bench is being painted in honor of Found.

Located in front of Formosa's on the Ped Mall, Found's father says the bench will be a permanent extension of his daughter.

"The whole bench idea is one that will last for a long, long time and people pass here all the time. If they can reflect, get a smile, get a chuckle, it'll be well worth it. So I'm glad we could do it," said Ernie Found, her father.

The front of the bench will have the phrase "Live Like Line", words that have taken over the students of West High as a way of saying "Live life as Caroline would".

The other side will have Found's team number, 9.
