TIFFIN (KWWL) -

The Iowa State Patrol says an Illinois man was killed early Thursday morning when a semi hit a truck and the man and then left the scene.

Emergency crews were called to mile marker 238 on westbound Interstate 80 just before 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

Troopers say 34-year-old Rolando Calderon-Yescas of North Chicago, Illinois was standing near his pick-up, which was parked on the outside shoulder, when he and the truck were hit by a semi.

"The driver actually got out of the vehicle, started to walk behind the vehicle, that's at what point the commercial vehicle, semi we're assuming at this point, came over the white line and hit the truck and the driver," said Trooper Robert Conrad with the Iowa State Patrol.

The semi truck took off, but few details about the truck or driver are known right now.

Officials are asking people to look for a semi with a white cab or white trim, with damage in the front.

There were four passengers in the victim's pick-up during the accident.  Authorities are still trying to figure out why Calderon-Yescas was outside of his vehicle.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Iowa State Patrol.

The accident remains under investigation.
