CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

BioLife Plasma Services is expanding in Cedar Rapids.

City and organization officials broke ground on a 17,500 square foot plasma donation center off Edgewood Road. The new location will be the 65th BioLife Center and the second in Cedar Rapids.

The plasma collected is used to make life-saving medicines.

"We want to make it as easy as possible for donors to donate and so having this great location here allows us to have our people, our donors, to be able to come out and donate conveniently on their own time," said Andrew Houts, Senior Plasma Center Manager.

BioLife is expected to open next spring.
