Cedar Rapids abduction attempt unrelated to suspicious van in Dubuque

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Police in Dubuque say they are confident a report of an attempted abduction in Cedar Rapids involving a white van is completely unrelated to a suspicious vehicle and driver they investigated last week.

Dubuque police filed no charges after its van investigation, saying there was no criminal intent, and there was not enough for probable cause.

In Cedar Rapids, police say an attempted abduction happened Tuesday evening when a man and woman in a white van tried to take a five-year-old boy from his bike.

Lt. Scott Baxter says with the exception of the van being white, nothing in the Cedar Rapids case matches the Dubuque investigation.
