UPDATE: Dan Morrissey's trial rescheduled

BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) -

Dan Morrissey, the father of missing girl Lyric Cook, appeared in court on Friday morning for a scheduling conference for his upcoming trial on drug and assault charges.

Morrissey faces two counts of domestic abuse with intent or while displaying a weapon and three counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of meth making materials.

Morrissey faces domestic assault charges after an alleged fight with his estranged wife, Misty-Cook Morrissey, the mother of Lyric Cook.

Morrissey showed up at the Black Hawk County Courthouse around 9 a.m. His attorney asked to push back the upcoming trial and waived Morrissey's right to have his trial one year from when the charges were filed.

Judge Andrea Dryer said she understood that Dan Morrissey hasn't been able to focus on the upcoming trial because of the recent circumstances involving his missing daughter and niece.

The trial is now tentatively scheduled for Aug. 28.

A court hearing had been scheduled for July 12, on the three drug charges, but the hearing was delayed.  That happened the day before 10-year-old Lyric Cook and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins disappeared on July 13.
