Burning Iowa City landfill not classified as "special waste"

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

City officials are getting some good news about the fire in the Iowa City landfill.

The Public Works director, Rick Fosse, said the material burned under the clay cap won't be classified as "special waste". That means the waste can stay in the landfill instead of being trucked elsewhere. Fosse said the decision will help keep costs down.
