Iowa deer has chronic wasting disease

Posted:
DAVIS COUNTY (KWWL) -

The first case of confirmed Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Iowa's deer population was found in Davis County.

The Department of Natural Resources says the first positive sample was verified this week.

The Davis County facility where the animal was held is being quarantined.

CWD is a neurological disease that only affects deer, elk and moose.

Experts do not believe that it can be spread to humans, pets or domestic livestock.

The DNR believes this is an isolated case, but they will be doing more testing this fall.
