Ford recalls 2013 Escapes, warns owners to stop driving

A fuel line problem is prompting is behind a recall of more than 11,000 Ford Escapes. Ford has taken the unusual step of telling owners to stop driving effected 2013 models immediately.

The fuel lines can crack and leak and spill gasoline, potentially causing the engine to catch on fire.

The recall only involves models with the 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine that were built from early April through July 11th. Ford says approximately 4,800 of the affected vehicles were sold. The rest are still located on dealer lots. 

The company reports thee known fires, two at a factory and one while a customer was driving, but there have been no injuries.

Customers should contact their local dealers in order to get the fuel lines repaired. Dealers will deliver owners a loaner vehicle, then take the 2013 Escape to the dealership to complete the repairs.
