FORT DODGE (KWWL) -

Iowa City West made the most of their first ever state tournament appearance shutting out Ottumwa 5-0 to advance to the class 5A state semifinals.

West High's Shelly Stumpff started off the scoring with an RBI base hit bringing in Tatum Klein.  An Ottumwa error allowed the second to score.  The Women of Troy would extend that lead in the 3rd with Morgan Ryan driving in a pair, while Brianna Sturtz capped the scoring with an RBI single in the 5th.

On the mound Mackenzie Laux was a machine.  Laux struck out 4 while allowing 5 hits in a complete game shutout.

Iowa City West will face Ankeny in Thursday's semifinals.
