WATERLOO (KWWL) -
A "Pretty in Pink" horse show is scheduled for Saturday, July 14 to help in the fight against breast cancer. The show takes place at the Silver Spur Saddle Shop in Waterloo beginning at 9 a.m.
It's organized by Emily Parks, a horse lover and a breast cancer survivor.
"I was diagnosed and went through all the treatments, then decided I really am passionate about horses. That's what I love to do. I didn't see a whole lot where those two things are combined," said Emily Parks.
The event is a double judge event through the Northeast Iowa Saddle Club Association. It includes a horse show and classes.
"It's gonna be a regular horse show. We're going to have some halter classes, lead-line and riding classes," said Parks.
But if riding isn't your thing, there's also food and a silent auction with about 50 items you can bid on.
No pre-registration is required, just show up to participate or to watch. Everyone who attends is encouraged to wear pink. Even contestants can forgo the usual riding attire and wear a pink shirt for a small fee.
All the proceeds from the horse show go to the Beyond Pink TEAM, which is a nonprofit organization providing breast cancer prevention, education and support, which Emily Parks knows first-hand is very important.
