New home sales up from a year ago

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -

The Commerce Department reports new home starts are up nearly 30% from a year ago.

Economists say the increase in new home construction is encouraging because it puts contractors back to work and pumps money into local communities. 

Also, permits for new homes rose last month to their highest level in almost four years.
