Iowa City police say man tried to steal keg from beer truck

A man faces charges after police say he tried to steal a keg from a beer truck on Tuesday.

Officers were called to the area of East Benton and South Gilbert Streets in Iowa City around 7:23 a.m. Tuesday after a delivery driver reported that a man was taking a keg of beer from his truck.

According to police, the driver reported that the man pulled a utility knife on him and then threw the knife in the creek.  The driver also told police that he was punched the head.

Police found Gary Leon Duffel II about a block away.  Duffel told police that the driver bothered him for no reason.  Police say Duffel had been drinking.

Duffel is charged with second degree robbery and an alcohol violation.

Police say Duffel has been charged with multiple alcohol related offenses in the past.
