Cedar Rapids gas leak forces evacuations

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A gas leak in Cedar Rapids on Tuesday morning forced a half-dozen people out of their homes for nearly two hours.

Greg Buelow, Public Information Officer for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, says a man was digging a hole for a water line at a home he was remodeling when he hit a two-inch gas line.

Firefighters went to 1816 2nd Street SW at around 7:52 a.m. and evacuated six people from their homes as a precaution because gas was leaking from the line.

Those that were evacuated were allowed back into their homes about two hours later.

No injuries were reported.
