Urban deer hunt scheduled for Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids will hold its annual Urban Deer Hunt for the season starting in September.

The hunt will run September 15, 2012 through January 20, 2013. Hunting permits for the season will be issued through the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. To receive a permit, hunters must attend a one-time, eight-hour Iowa Bow Hunter's Safety Course; complete an Urban Deer Management application; complete an annual proficiency certification test; and attend a Urban Deer Hunt Rules and Regulations class. 

Applications are available at Dick's Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain, Palo Outdoors, Affinity Archery, the Central Fire Station, and the Cedar Rapids Fire Department website. Proficiency certification tests and the rules and regulations classes are offered at Palo Outdoors located at 1204 1st Street, Palo and at Affinity Archery at 711 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids. The orientation session dates are:

- Wednesday, August 22nd – Palo Outdoors, 6:00 p.m. -7:30 p.m.

- Tuesday, August 28th – Affinity Archery, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

- Saturday, September 8th – Palo Outdoors, 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. 

- Wednesday, September 12th – Affinity Archery, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

- Saturday, September 22nd – Palo Outdoors, 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
