NEW HAMPTON (KWWL) -

Sumner-Fredericksburg pounded out 13 runs and made short work of Central Spring winning 15-3 in 4 innings Monday night.  The win advances the Cougars to their first state tournament since the Sumner Aces made it in the 1980 season.

The Cougars capped a 4 run first inning with a 2 run single by junior Kelsey Nilges.  They tacked on 4 more in the second as Mckenzie Schmidt drove in her second RBI of the evening on an opposite field double.

Sumner-Fredericksburg added 3 in the 3rd and 4 more in the 4th to invoke the mercy rule sending Central Springs home early.  The Cougars open up state tournament play Monday evening against Van Meter.
