CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
The Cedar Rapids Kernels moved a step closer to getting out of the Western Division cellar with a 3-0 win over Peoria on Sunday.
Kernels starting pitcher Austin Wood was dominant, going five-and-one-third innings, allowing no runs while striking out nine. Ty Kelly pitched a perfect ninth to pick up the save.
Offensively, the Kernels got on the board in the fourth when Eric Stamets scored from third base following an error on a pickoff play. Stamets and Kevin Moesquit each picked up RBI singles in the fifth to round out the scoring.
The win moves Cedar Rapids to 6-11 in the second half and into a last place tie with Peoria.
