WATERLOO (KWWL) -
Waterloo East's defense abandoned them in a nightmarish 5th inning giving Cedar Rapids Prairie a 4-0 win and a ticket to the softball regional finals.
East's Alyson Netty was cruising through the 4th inning allowing no runs and just 2 hits, but it all changed in the 5th. After a leadoff double, Prairie's Malia Gudenkauf would score on a botched throw to first following a bunt. Amanda Stecklein then made it 2-0 scoring on a Netty wild pitch. In all, the Trojans committed 4 errors and tossed 3 wild pitches in a 5th inning that saw Prairie score 4 runs.
Prairie now advances to a regional final match against 7th ranked Iowa City West for the right to go to state.
