Hy-Vee Ironkids triathlon races through George Wyth State Park

Despite hot conditions, a group of young athletes took part in a triathlon in Waterloo Saturday morning.

More than 200 kids swam, biked and ran through George Wyth State Park.

There were three age groups, 6-8 year olds, 9-11 year olds and 12-15 year olds. The length of the course was adjusted for age.

But don't be fooled, these kids were still working hard.

Organizers hope events like this will help young people to lead healthier lives

The top five boys and girls in each age group will advance to the U.S. Ironkids Championship, which will be held in Des Moines Labor Day weekend.
