Troopers clock Cedar Rapids motorcyclist doing 152 m.p.h.

A Cedar Rapids man faces charges after the Iowa State Patrol says they clocked him doing 152 m.p.h. on his motorcycle while traveling on Highway 218 on July 4.

According to a criminal complaint, Trooper Pilot Degan, who was in an Iowa State Patrol aircraft, clocked 28-year-old Travis Jordan Hostetler going 95 m.p.h. on Highway 218 near mile marker 93.

That's when a trooper in a marked car attempted to pull Hostetler over.

The trooper says Hostetler got off on the Melrose exit, ran a red light, made a u-turn and then got back on northbound Highway 218.

Trooper Degan says that's when he clocked Hostetler going 152 m.p.h.

As they approached the construction zone at Interstate 80/380, troopers say he was passing between cars before colliding with a marked Iowa State Patrol car who was slowing down and warning traffic about the chase.

Jessica Lown, spokesperson for the Iowa State Patrol says the collision happened at low speeds.

Hostetler is charged with eluding and driving while barred.  He was also cited for 10 traffic violations.
