Waterloo and Cedar Falls Jaycees plan fireworks festival

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A change in tradition this year, the Waterloo and Cedar Falls Jaycees are combining their efforts to bring a bigger fireworks display to the Cedar Valley this weekend.

The Waterloo Jaycees discovered that they could not use the traditional spot by the river this year due to new construction making it a fire hazard.

So this year, the Jaycees are holding a two day event that will include not only fireworks, but free concerts and carnival rides at the National Cattle Congress.

All money raised helps the Jaycees in supporting the community.

"Those proceeds that they come down and help support the Jaycees and our community activities that we do throughout the year. So it's not just about us making money. We put that money right back into the community and it's really important for us to be able to do that," Cheryl Meller, Waterloo Jaycees.

The Jaycees fireworks festival will be on Friday and Saturday at the National Cattle Congress. Fireworks start at 10:00 pm.

Bands include "Winger", "Head East", "Florida Georgia Line" and much more.
