Iowa DOT: There is no online driver's license renewal

Posted:
AMES (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Transportation says that published reports of an online driver's license renewal system taking effect on July 1 are wrong.

Kim Snook says that Senate File 2238, which contained a provision that allowed the Iowa DOT to begin such a system on July 1, was vetoed on May 25.

Snook adds that because online renewal is more convenient and cost effective, they are exploring options that may allow them to establish a system in the future.

There are some driver services that are available online, such as looking at your driving record and electronic reminder of when it's time to renew your license.
