Hot and dry weather leading to burn bans in some counties

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The hot and dry weather is forcing some counties in eastern Iowa to issue burn bans.

Dubuque, Clayton and Fayette Counties, have issued burn bans. More are expected as the hot and dry weather continues.

A burn ban prohibits any open and outside fires.  This includes burn barrels, campfires and the burning of brush and grass.

According to Iowa code, if you are caught violating a burn ban, you can be charged with a simple misdemeanor.

The public will be notified when the burn bans are lifted.
