Nukuri-Johnson sets record at 5th Season 8K

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Former 3-time Hawkeye All-American Diane Nukuri-Johnson defended her title at the Alliant Energy 5th Season 8-K in record fashion.  Nukuri-Johnson clocked a time of 25 minutes, 48 seconds to best the old women's mark by 2 seconds.

Nukuri-Johnson ran the race as part of her training for the upcoming Olympic games.  The Iowa City resident will be running for her native country of Burundi.

Ethiopia native Alene Reta won the men's race in 23 minutes, 3 seconds.  It was his second win in the event, the last came in 2007.
