WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -

A local veteran went to the White House for a 4th of July dinner and fireworks celebration.

We've been follow the progress of wounded Iowa sailor Taylor Morris since he was injured in Afghanistan by an IED this spring.

The Cedar Falls native and his girlfriend, Danielle, met the President earlier this month and were invited to the White House for the holiday.

Also according to Taylor's blog, he was officially released from the hospital this week and moved to an apartment at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

The doctors are carefully watching an infection on one of his limbs.

They want to make sure the infection doesn't reach the bone or the doctors will have to start cutting the bone.

Right now, they're treating the infection with antibiotics and hoping for the best.
