ROCKFORD (KWWL) -

A small northern Iowa town will unveil a statue honoring a Navy SEAL killed last year in Afghanistan and the loyal dog who touched hearts around the world.

The statute in Rockford will be of Iowa native Jon Tumilson and his dog, Hawkeye.

Tumilson died last August with 29 other American soldiers when his helicopter was shot down.

His dog, Hawkeye, led family members into Tumilson's funeral service and laid by his casket during the ceremony.

This Saturday Rockford Fossil and Prairie ParK will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the statue.

Supporters have raised money to pay for it.

It's not quite finished yet, but should be by this fall.
