DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Governor Terry Branstad has been released from a hospital after choking on food during a re-dedication ceremony for the USS Iowa battleship.

A Branstad spokesman said the governor choked on a carrot at some point during the event in Los Angeles. The governor was taken to a nearby hospital, went through a series of precautionary tests, and was quickly released.

The governor was able to quickly return to his schedule. Branstad plans to visit his uncle who lives in the area and watch fireworks before returning to Iowa Thursday.

The USS Iowa is a battleship that's being dedicated as a museum. It saw action during World War II, the Korean War, and the Cold War.
