Gov. Branstad, Sen. Harkin on USS Iowa for July 4th

Posted:

On Independence Day, Governor Terry Branstad is at the Port of Los Angeles -- celebrating the USS Iowa.

Branstad is joining Senator Tom Harkin and Julianna Roosevelt - who is the great-granddaughter of FDR, who actually travelled on the USS Iowa during World War Two.

The ship is known as the "Battleship of Presidents" because it also hosted Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

The USS Iowa will now be a museum, and is permanently docked near the World Cruise Center in San Pedro, California.

Its grand opening to the public is Saturday, July 7th.  From that point on, the floating museum will be open daily for tours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tour tickets are available online here.
