Three former Kernels selected to MLB All-Star game

Three former Kernels will be in Kansas City next week after being selected to the American League All-Star roster.

Mike Napoli, who played in Cedar Rapids in 2001 and 2002, will be the starting catcher.  Napoli is hitting .235 and has 12 home runs and 35 RBI's in 69 games for the Texas Rangers.

Mike Trout, a member of the 2010 Kernels squad, was selected as a reserve for the American League.  Trout has nine home runs, 33 RBI's, 22 stolen bases and is batting .339 for the Angels.  He currently leads the American League in batting average and stolen bases.

Mark Trumbo will also be a reserve for the American League.  Trumbo, who played in Cedar Rapids in 2006 and 2007, is hitting .312 with 20 home runs and 55 RBI's in 70 games for the Angels.

The 83rd Major League All-Star Game, hosted by the Kansas City Royals, will be played on Tuesday, July 10th.
