World Record Decathlete coached by UNI's Steele

The man who currently holds the title of world's greatest athlete-- learned his craft under University of Northern Iowa head track and field coach Dan Steele.

Ashton Eaton won the decathlon at the United States Olympic Trials with a world record performance. Eaton learned the decathlon and trained under Dan Steele at Oregon. The Panther head coach says Eaton was lightly recruited out of high school, but he could see his great potential very early.

Eaton won two NCAA decathlon championships while Steele was his coach. Steele said he talked with Eaton right after his world record performance at the Olympic Trials last week.
