Flashing yellow left-turn lights coming to Iowa

Iowa drivers will soon notice a new type of traffic light for left turns.

The new signals were adopted by the The Federal Highway Administration as a new standard for left turn lights nationwide. The signals include a green arrow that indicates it's OK to make a left turn; a flashing yellow arrow telling drivers to yield to oncoming traffic before making a left turn; a solid yellow arrow indicating the light is about to change to red; and a solid red arrow.

Several cities already have the new signal lights, but they are not yet available state-wide. Others will be installed as cities upgrade current intersections.
