DAVENPORT (KWWL) -

Offense was at a premium on Thursday night in Davenport as the Quad Cities River Bandits blanked the Cedar Rapids Kernels 1-0 at Modern Woodman Park.

The only run of the game came in the fourth inning when Anthony Garcia scored on a Luis Mateo single.

The Kernels best chance came in the seventh inning after Andy Workman doubled to start off the inning, but a fly out, a strikeout and another fly out left Workman stranded at third base.

The Kernels struck out a total of 11 times in the ball game and River Bandits pitchers gave up no walks.

Austin Wood took the loss. He allowed one run on four hits in six innings while striking out three and walking four.

Mike Johnson allowed two hits while striking out one in one inning of relief.

Carmine Giardina allowed no hits, walked one and struck out one in one inning of work.

Sam Gaviglio picked up the win and Heath Wyatt got his 12th save for the River Bandits.

The Kernels and Quad Cities play game two of their three game series on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
