DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has sent 18 fire fighters to help battle the wildfires in Colorado Springs.

Thursday morning five fire fighters and a truck took off for what could be a month long trip.

A DNR fire specialist tells WHO-TV that the firefighters never really know what each day might hold.

"Anything they need us to do…we can do structure protection, we're a medical engine, we have EMT's on board," says DNR fire specialist Karl Harris.

The crew sent on Thursday has worked past fires in Texas and California. They could be working on the fire in Colorado for 30 days.
