U.S. Amendment inspired by a 7-year-old Iowan

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -

An amendment inspired by a seven-year-old Iowan passed the U.S. House of Representatives Tuesday with a unanimous vote.

It's called "Kadyn's Amendment" and was named after Kadyn Halverson.

Halverson was killed when getting on her school bus in May 2011. She was struck by a pick-up that did not stop for the school bus's stop sign.

This amendment would devote $10 million of federal funding to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This money will help them to strengthen enforcement of existing state laws prohibiting drivers from passing stopped school buses that have warning lights flashing and stop arms extended.
