Barnes goes 7th and White 16th in the NBA Draft

The Golden State Warriors selected Ames native and North Carolina small forward Harrison Barnes with the No. 7 overall pick in the NBA draft, giving the franchise a potent player at a position that desperately needs depth.

The 6-foot-8 sophomore led the Tar Heels with 17.1 points per game and also averaged 5.2 rebounds. Now 20 years old, he also was the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Year in 2011.

The Houston Rockets took Iowa State forward Royce White with the 16th pick in the NBA draft, their second of three first-round selections.

The 6-foot-8, 270-pound White initially enrolled at Minnesota, then transferred to Iowa State, where he played his lone college season. He averaged 13.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and five assists per game last season.
