Kinnetz, Netty lead Trojan charge

East High junior Katelyn Kinnetz and senior Alyson Netty provide a potent 1-2 punch.

"She works so hard at shortstop, "Netty said of her teammate, "and then her swing went from good to great.  She's so good."

The admiration is mutual.

"She just tears up the mound really," said Kinnetz, "and our defense does pretty well, too. We put everything together, and it's awesome."

So far this year Katelyn's done it with her bat hitting for a .560 average with 9 home runs.  That's 8 more than in her previous 2 seasons as a starter."

"She's always been powerful," said Coach Gene Laughlin, "We just changed a couple things on her mechanics, and it's shown.  She's just outstanding."

Netty's gone deep 7 times this year, but it's her 16-3 record and 174 strikeouts on the mound this that's made her something special.

"Aly's an outstanding pitcher," said Laughlin, "It all bases off the pitching, and we've got a great defense behind her."

At 23-6 the Trojans are having one of the best seasons in school history. Returning every single starter from a season ago has played a major role in that success.

"We just all kept working hard, coming to open gyms, just working our butts off, and this year it's a phenomenal year for us," said Kinnetz.

Currently riding an 11 game winning streak, the Trojans top two players now hope to lead this program to the state softball tournament.  That's something that's never happened for East High.

"It would mean a lot," said Netty, "I know a lot of people around this area went to East High and they know East High used to be on the top, and we're just trying to get back to there."
