GILBERTVILLE (KWWL) -

For several years, the Don Bosco girls softball team has held an annual "pink out" in support of breast cancer research.

Wednesday night, the boys baseball team got involved in the cause and showed fans in the stands a bit of purple.

The players and fans sported purple in support of pancreatic cancer.

This addition of purple is the community's way of supporting Jesup native Ernie schmit, who is currently battling pancreatic cancer.

T-shirts were sold to help raise funds and awareness.

"I think this is a great idea and I think this'll go a long way to helping everybody realize that cancer is gonna be the number one killer eventually. And pancreatic cancer is getting more and more common," said Schmit.

Ernie Schmit is the grandfather of Don Bosco baseball player Cade Schares and father-in-law to Coach Schares.
