Federal funding aims to add law enforcement in Johnson County

Federal money is helping to grow the Iowa City Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

Enough money was awarded to allow the police department to hire two more officers and the sheriff's office to hire another deputy.

Under the provisions, all three must be a military veteran who served at least 180 days since September 11th, 2001. The program provides the salary and benefits for three years.
